COMMUNITY WELLS
The RM of Moosomin operates six (6) community wells/dugouts within our municipal borders. The wells/dugouts - Spring, Outhwaite, Dobson, Manson, Campbell & Clark, are all operated using a keyfob that is purchased from the Municipal Office for a fee of $100/year. The water is free to ratepayers of the the RM of Moosomin but all other users must pay $20.00 per 1000 gallons of water used.
Please be advised that the water from Spring Well (NE 36-13-32-W1), Outhwaite Dugout (SE 31-15-31-W1), Dobson Dugout(NE 15-15-31-W1), Manson Well (NE 26-13-30-W1), Campbell Dogout (SE 19-14-30-W1) and Clark Well (SE 19-15-30-W1) that is available to the public is NOT POTABLE (the water is not safe for human consumption). The water from these wells is NOT TREATED or TESTED and is considered unsafe for human consumption. DO NOT USE this water for drinking, cooking, food preparation and/or oral hygiene purposes.
FIRE SERVICES
The RM of Moosomin does not have its own volunteer fire department and therefore has agreements with the Town of Moosomin (Divisions 1, 2, 3 & 4) and the RM of Rocanville (Division 5 & 6) volunteer fire departments to provide service to our ratepayers. Both fire departments bill the RM for any services rendered and the RM passes the charges along to the affected ratepayers, if applicable.
SNOW REMOVAL/GRADING/MOWING SERVICES
There is no "free" grading/snow removal/mowing of any private lanes. Any grading/snow removal/mowing requests will be charged as per the Custom Equipment Rates motion that is passed each year. Ratepayers should call the office to arrange for snow removal/grading/mowing services. Ratepayer requests will be dealt with as time permits and ratepayers should be aware that municipal roads take precedence over private lanes, especially in the winter after a snowstorm.
GRAVEL
The RM will keep roads graveled for the safety of the motoring public. The Foreman shall ensure all roads are graveled as necessary during the year or when requested by a member of Council. The RM of Moosomin owns/purchases its own gravel sources but uses outside contractors to apply the gravel to the road. The RM of Moosomin DOES NOT sell gravel to ratepayers or private companies. Any ratepayer who wishes to have gravel applied to their own property should contact a private gravel hauler such as Margetts Construction or Hopehill Hauling.
MAPS
The RM updates it's map with changes to assessment every 4 years after Revaluation. Maps are generally updated yearly with changes to ownership. Maps may be purchased in the office for $14.50 (large), $7.25 (small) or mailed $16.50. Maps may also be purchased on the I-Hunter App. You can view our map under the MAP tab in the website.
TAX CERTIFICATES
A Tax Certificate is an official document that shows a property's Roll Number, Property Description (land location), Current Taxes Owing, Arrears Owing, Interest, Total Owing, Property Tax Class, Land Type, Assessed Value and Taxable Value. This information is NOT given verbally and the only way to confirm that taxes are paid is to purchase a Tax Certificate. Any person, financial institution or company may request a Tax Certificate from the Municipal Office for any property in the Municipality. Tax Certificates cost $20.00 per parcel of land.
RAT POISON
The Municipality employs a Pest Control Officer who's job is to inspect all inhabited properties within the Municipality for Rats. Rats are nocturnal so if you see rats in the daytime it is likely a sign of an infestation and you should contact the RM Office to advise. The Pest Control Officer inspects properties generally in the fall and will leave poison (free of charge to ratepayers) to deal with any infestation. Prevention is the simplest and most effective tool to manage rat populations. Simple sets to take include:
- Burn and bury old grain
- Clean up spilled grain and garden waste
- Cut tall grass
- Keep piles of lumber, wood, scrap, etc... away from buildings
- Maintain safe access for Pest Control Officer to conduct regular inspections
- Minimize water and food source access
- Practice prevention baiting: it’s a good neighbor policy
- Properly dispose of harborage, rubbish, and debris
- Rat-proof your buildings
- Rotate location of grain bag storage from year to year
